Cuba on May 9 officially announced its future socio-economic model which was detailed at a document recently approved at the 7 th National Congress of Cuban Communist Party.
The document, named “Socio-Economic Guidelines of the Party and the Revolution”, says the government will let its people travel abroad as tourists, legalise the sale of houses and cars and expand the ranks of private cooperatives.
The framework makes clear the Government’s desire to rearrange labour forces, eliminate the country’s unusual dual currency system and cut unreasonable subsidies.
The 39-page document underlines that Cuba will continue ensuring free health and education systems for the entire population, pay attention to people living in special difficult circumstances and consider salary as well as housing policies.
The guidelines says the Government has also promised to attract more foreign investment to gain access to advanced technologies, management methods, diversify and expand export markets in stead of import markets, and generate more jobs for its residents.
Before being approved at the seventh National Party Congress, which lasted from April 16-19, the 313-point guidelines were polled by 8.9 million Cubans, of the total population of 112.2 million.
In order to translate the document into action, a Standing Commission for Implementation and Development of Update of Economic Model was formed with Marino Murillo, Politburo member and Vice President of the Council of Ministers, as the head, said Cuban President Raul Castro./.
