Cuban national hero’s death anniversary commemorated in Hanoi
Hanoi (VNA) - Wreaths were laid in front of Cuban national hero José Martí’s
statue in Hanoi’s Tao Dan Park on May 19 to commemorate his 125th death anniversary.
The ceremony
was held by the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association (VCFA), the Vietnam Union
of Friendship Organisations of Hanoi, and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam.
Addressing
the ceremony, VCFA Vice President Nguyen Thi Thu Giang highlighted the revolutionary
hero’s contributions to Cuba’s struggle for independence in the late 19th century and the friendship between the two nations.
Cuban
Ambassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres Rivera recalled José Martí’s life and career and pointed out
similarities between his and President Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts in fighting for
national independence and freedom.
She hoped
that the younger generations of Vietnam and Cuba will continue preserving and
strengthening the special solidarity and faithful friendship between the two countries.
Cuba and Vietnam will hold a range of activities, including a photo exhibition, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year, thus helping younger generations to better understand the traditional relationship, the ambassador added./.
