Cueist Ma Minh Cam (Photo VNA)Hanoi (VNA) - Cueist Ma Minh Cam has made billiards history in Vietnam, by being the country’s first representative in the semi-finals of the Three Cushion World Championship.
The 40-year-old defeated a leading player of Mexia, Texas, Javier Vera, 40-28 in the quarterfinals of the Championship in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, on November 12.
Cam will next face Belgian, Eddy Merckx, who won world titles in 2006 and 2012. The other semi-final will see a fight between two-time world champion, Belgian Frederic Caudron, and Marco Zanetti of Italy, who was also the former world champion in 2002 and 2008.
The tournament has drawn 48 participants from all over the world. They were divided into 16 groups of three, of which 16 winners and 16 runners-up advanced to the knockout stage after the preliminary rounds.The overall winner will win 11,600 USD.-VNA
