Drama fans in Hanoi will have a chance to enjoy Brand, a remarkable play from the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen at the Youth Theatre.

The play, directed by People's Artist Le Hung, will be performed at 8pm on May 19 and May 20 at the theatre on Ngo Thi Nham street in Hanoi .

Brand was translated into Vietnamese by the late writer Doan Phu Tu in 1971.

The play is a verse tragedy written in 1865 and first performed in Stockholm in 1867. Brand is an intellectual play that caused many people to "think outside the box" when it was released.

The main character of the play, Brand, is a priest who wants to be conscience of his decisions, and is therefore deeply bound to doing the right thing. He believes primarily in the will of man, and lives by the creed "all or nothing." His beliefs lead him to live a lonely existence, because the people around him are not as concerned with his moral calling.

The Youth Theatre worked with the Norwegian Embassy in Hanoi to release the play in honour of Norway 's National Day on May 17./.
