Representatives of the Da Nang City People’s Committee and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) discussed measures to turn the central city of Da Nang into an environmentally-friendly city in the future at a seminar on May 24.

An environmentally-friendly Da Nang city is the long-term goal of a project on urban environment and climate change, supported by the German Reconstruction Bank and GIZ.

Running from July, 2010 to December, 2012, the project will help build plans on protecting environment, developing suburban areas, collecting and treating solid wastes, assessing environment as well as propose policies on managing resources and environment.

At the seminar, GIZ experts also proposed that the city combine measures for disaster mitigation and carbon emission reduction, and put in place regulations to promote investment in environmental protection and raise enforcement capacity.

The event also witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement between leaders of the Da Nang authorities and GIZ./.
