The central city of Da Nang has emerged as an attractive destination for investors in information technology (IT), said experts.

Ha Huy Hao, the Juniper Networks Country Director to Vietnam , said this view takes into account the city’s good infrastructure and services, and incentive policies for investors in the sector.

Da Nang’s IT sector is catching attention from US, Japanese and Singaporean investors, said Pham Kim Son, Director of the city’s Department of Information and Communications, in addition to 20 IT on-going projects in the city.

The National Steering Committee on Informatic Application last year ranked Da Nang first among cities and provinces nationwide in term of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) index.

The city’s IT sector grew by 25 percent annually in the past three years. Even during the world economic crisis, the rate of occupancy in the city’s software parks was still relatively high, according to statistics by the local Department of Information and Communications.

That is the reason why Juniper Networks, a world leading network infrastructure provider, made the decision to invest 10 million USD in building a next generation network (NGN) lab in Danang. The lab is said to be larger and more modern than the firm’s two labs built earlier in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City .

According to a draft master plan on developing IT parks in Vietnam by 2020, three IT parks will be established in Da Nang . Two of them have already been completed while the third one is in the phase of site clearance./.
