Da Nang played offensively from the outside. Merlo headed in the opener after getting on the end of a free kick by Nicolas Hernandes in the 32nd minute.

Binh Duong surged forward in a desperate bid to equalise the score and created a number of chances that were not capitalised on by strikers Nguyen Anh Duc and midfielder Nguyen Vu Phong.

However, in the second half, Nguyen Anh Duc equalised the score.

Da Nang then went ahead when Duy Lam fired in a volley. But just three minutes from time, Binh Duong's Philani outpaced a Da Nang defender to slot in a low ball past Binh Duong's goalkeeper to level the score at 2-2 and force the match into extra-time.
