The fourth ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community meeting (ASCC 4) will be held in Da Nang on August 16, said Nguyen Trong Dam, Deputy Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs.

The ASCC 4 meeting will focus on assessment of the implemention of the ASCC master plan for the 2009-2015 period, discuss the implementation of prioritised areas such as response to global challenges, human resource development for economic recovery and enhancement of social welfare for women and children, Dam told a press briefing in Hanoi on August 5.

The meeting will adopt the content of two draft documents – the ASEAN leaders’ statement on human resource development and capacity for economic recovery and development, and the ASEAN leaders’ statement on welfare and development for ASEAN women and children – to submit to the 17 th ASEAN Summit for approval.

As ASCC chair in 2010, Vietnam has made contributions to development of the community through proposing the two statements, putting forth initiatives and actively implementing related commitments such as organisation of the ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting in May, and a meeting of the ASEAN Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children in April./.
