Da Nang plans first dioxin detox centre

The People’s Committee of central Da Nang city plans to build its first dioxin detoxification centre this year.
The committee had asked the city’s Association for Victims of Agent Orange to work with related agencies to complete legal procedures for the center’s operations, according to Nguyen Thi Hien, chairwoman of the association.

The association had sent 10 doctors and medical officials to a dioxin detoxification centre in northern Thai Binh province for training, Hien said.

During the 10 years from 1961, the US Army sprayed more than 18.2 million gallons of Agent Orange (AO) onto more than 10 percent of the land in southern Vietnam .

It is estimated that more than 4.8 million Vietnamese were exposed to AO/dioxin. Many of the victims have died, while millions of their descendants are living with deformities and diseases due to the effects of AO.-VNA
