The simple charming beauty of Vietnam has never ceased to inspire artists.

Young photographer Tran Nhan Quyen, who recently succeeded in capturing the peaceful scenes of Vietnamese daily life and the poetic romance of the natural landscapes, has his photos on display at a new exhibition in Hanoi.

Visit the Exhibition House in Hang Bai Street and visitors will meet familiar images of Vietnam that they may well have seen before: a group of naughty boys bathing their buffalo in the river, an ethnic woman carrying a child on her back walking through immense flower fields, tribal women of North Western region joyfully taking part in "tug of war" at a festival.

Though these are scenes they have witnessed before, Quyen's 60 black-and-white photos offer fresh impressions and interpretations as seen through the lens of a passionate young photographer, later produced (by himself) using the traditional photographic process – a rarity in this digital age.

"I was lucky to travel across many different regions and fell in love with the beauty of the people and the landscapes in those places," says the 34-year-old photographer and teacher at the Hanoi College of Theatre and Cinema's Photography Department where he once studied.

Born into a poor and numerous family in Thanh Hoa Province, in 1978, Quyen first bought a camera to take photos and sell them to earn money for his studies at the Hanoi National University's Foreign Languages department.

Eventually, he gave up his foreign languages course to devote himself to his true passion in life.

A member of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, he has won several prizes at national contests and held his first solo photo exhibition in Hanoi in 2009.

"I highly appreciate Quyen's passion for photography and his talent," said Vu Quoc Khanh, the association's chairman.

"At this exhibit, I am impressed by his unique style which honours the pure beauty of Vietnam."

The exhibitions runs until April 3 at Exhibition House, 29 Hang Bai Street.-VNA
