The Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) received 200 high-yield dairy cows imported from Australia at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on February 25.

This was the first shipment among 5,000 cows that Vinamilk, the biggest dairy firm in Vietnam , plans to import from Australia and the US in 2014 as part of its efforts to raise output to 50 million litres of milk per year.

The company said the herd had been under strict medical supervision by Australian experts, adding that these cows are hoped to help improve milk quality and quantity as well as increase the number of dairy cows in Vietnam.

In early February, Australia shipped the first 222 buffalo from its Northern Territory (NT) to Vietnam. The country is now the second largest importer of the NT cattle after Indonesia.-VNA
