Hanoi (VNA) – General Surapong Suwana-Adth, commander of the Royal Thai Army’s defence forces, visited Vietnam from April 4-5.

The visit aims to enhance friendship, mutual understanding and trust between the two countries’ peoples and armies, contributing to reinforcing bilateral ties.

It also looks to implement agreements reached during the visit to Thailand in February 2017 by Vietnam’s General Ngo Xuan Lich, Minister of Defence.

On April 4, General Surapong Suwana-Adth met with General Ngo Xuan Lich in Hanoi, during which he confirmed Thailand wants to enhance pragmatic collaboration with Vietnam for peace, stability and development.

Minister Ngo Xuan Lich suggested the two sides coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums to bring the bilateral defence partnership to a new height.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, held a ceremony to welcome the guest.

They later discussed measures to boost bilateral cooperation, agreeing to implement collaboration contents, focusing on delegation and young official exchanges and coordination in UN peacekeeping activities and humanitarian mine action.-VNA
