On this occasion, Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh sent condolences to his Philippine counterpart over the damage, manifesting the solidarity and friendship between the two armies and peoples.

Philippine military units have suffered from great human and property losses during the storm and the rescue work.

According to figures from the Philippine Government, the death toll from typhoon Haiyan, which hit the country on November 8, had increased to 3,982 as of November 19, and the number of the injured ballooned to 18,267.

The disaster also left 2 million people homeless and affected 9 million others in 9,000 villages in 44 provinces in the country.-VNA
