The defence cooperation between Vietnam and Russia is considered one of the cornerstones in the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, which has been increasingly reinforced in recent years.

Deputy Minister of Defence Senior Lieutenant General Truong Quoc Khanh made the remark while receiving Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Vladimir Nikolaevich Drozzov in Hanoi on September 30.

He highlighted the long-standing traditional friendship between the two countries, which was established 65 years ago and since been nurtured by generations of the two peoples.

The Vietnamese people continually bear in mind the valuable assistance of their Russian friends during the causes of national independence, reunification and current construction and defence, he said, proposing the two sides deepen defence ties in particular.

The Russian official expressed his pleasure to return to Vietnam after his first visit 13 years ago.

He said Russia considers collaboration with Vietnam to be of the utmost importance and will continue to exchange measures with the Southeast Asian country to augment the bilateral defence relations.-VNA
