The national demand for electricity in August is expected to reach 11.9 billion kWh, up 11 percent against the same period last year, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).
The ministry said as the flood season peaks this month, hydro-electric power plants are expected to increase output, thus ensuring supply will be able to meet the rising demand.
The electricity output in the first seven months of this year almost reached 80 billion kWh, an increase of 8.2 percent year on year.
It was reported that 50.9 percent of the electricity output was supplied to industry-construction, up 10.4 percent year on year. Household and office consumption accounted for 37.8 percent of power output, a rise of 10.4 percent. Meanwhile, power supply to agriculture-forestry-fishery production increased by 16.5 percent and accounted for 1.4 percent of total output.
The MoIT said power consumption by industry and construction sectors saw a decline, while that of households, trade and hotels increased.-VNA
