Demark supports its cooperation with Vietnam , especially in the fields of climate change, environment and education and training, said Danish Queen Magrethe II.

At a reception for visiting Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Copenhagen on September 16, the Queen highly valued developments in their bilateral ties and suggested the two sides continue to cooperate, both bilaterally and multilaterally.

For his part, PM Dung affirmed that the Vietnamese Government and people always attach importance to and wish to strengthen the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Denmark .

The two nations’ friendship is a priceless asset and a foundation for both sides to further their cooperation in various fields, looking towards a long-term, stable and mutually-beneficial “Partnership for Development” during the 21st century.

The Vietnamese Government leader expressed his hope that the Danish Queen and Royal Family will continue their support for the ties between the two countries.

Earlier, PM Dung and his Danish counterpart, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, held a press briefing after their talks, during which they said they agreed to elevate their bilateral ties to the level of a “Partnership for Development” on the basis of durability, stability and mutual benefit.

The two PMs stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in coping with climate change and rising sea levels, for which the Danish side will provide 40 million USD for Vietnam to address the problem.

Vietnam pledged to support Denmark ’s hosting of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) and the Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP5) in Copenhagen in December.

PM Rasmussen affirmed the continuation of the provision of ODA to Vietnam and the creation of favourable conditions for Danish enterprises to do business in the Southeast Asian country.

The two PMs said they are actively preparing for Queen Magrethe’s official visit to Vietnam in November.

At a reception for the Speaker of the Danish Folketinget (Parliament), Thor Pederson, the Vietnamese government leader affirmed that the effective use of Danish ODA capital in Vietnam has made a remarkable contribution to the country’s poverty reduction and socio-economic development.

He thanked Denmark for its new 40 million USD aid to Vietnam to cope with climate change and suggested the Danish Parliament continue to support ODA provisions to Vietnam .

In reply, the Danish Speaker agreed to actively support bilateral ties, especially in ODA provision. He also expressed his wish to further strengthen cooperation between the two parliaments.

Also on the same day, PM Dung witnessed the signing of a 18.7 million EURO joint financial agreement on the Judicial Partnership Programme between the governments of Vietnam , Denmark and Sweden and a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Vietnam ’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs./.
