Hanoi (VNA) - Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh held a reception for Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence of the US Thomas Ross on July 7.

Ross is leading a delegation from the Department of Defence on a working visit to Vietnam.

The officials reviewed the two countries’ defence cooperation in line with their comprehensive partnership, the orientations in the framework of the Defence Co-operation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2011 and the Joint Vision Statement on Defence Relations signed in 2015.

Vinh called on the US side to continue boosting effective bilateral cooperation, giving priority to addressing post-war consequences, such as dioxin contamination, bomb clearance, humanitarian relief, and search and rescue in natural disasters.

Ross pledged to submit the Vietnam Defence Ministry’s suggestions to the US Defence Department at the earliest time.

He noted with hope that mutual efforts will make the bilateral defence relations grow in a more practical and effective manner in the future.-VNA
