Deputy Minister of Defence Nguyen Chi Vinh received Ms. Ann Mills Griffiths, Chairwoman of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia, in Hanoi on February 5.

At the reception, Senior Lieutenant General Vinh highlighted that in recent years, Vietnam and the United States have actively coordinated in the search for POWs/MIAs in the war in Vietnam.

The humanitarian initiative has also contributed to strengthening the relationship and cooperation between the two countries, Vinh said, adding that the country has also actively proposed and coordinated with the US to innovate effective search methods.

The remains-collection teams, comprised of dozens of American and Vietnamese professionals along with investigative and gathering experts, were able to complete numerous designated tasks.

So far, hundreds of remains of American soldiers have been gathered and handed over to the US.

For her part, Ms. Griffiths expressed her appreciation for the collective achievements in the search for POWs/MIAs from the war in Vietnam and her sincere gratitude to Vietnam for its fruitful cooperation.

Ms. Griffiths hopes to continue the close cooperation with Vietnam to ensure the humanitarian efforts and search for the remains of the American soldiers continue to reap successes and further promote diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the US.-VNA
