Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has asked for drastic measures to promptly handle problems and risks threatening aviation security while presiding over a recent meeting of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee in Hanoi.

Hanoi (VNA) –Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has asked for drastic measures to promptlyhandle problems and risks threatening aviation security while presiding over arecent meeting of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee in Hanoi.

The Deputy PM noted that in 2017, with joint efforts of the Government, theNational Civil Aviation Security Committee and relevant ministries, sectors andlocality, aviation security and safety was ensured, contributing to makingVietnam a safe and attractive destination to foreign tourists and investors.

Currently, ensuring aviationsecurity and safety is a task of significant importance, he told the meetingheld on April 24 to review the committee’s operation in 2017 and set fourthtasks of 2018.

In 2018, the Ministry of Public Security should consult the Government and thePrime Minister on building and completing a legal corridor to implement theAnti-Terrorism Law 2013, while warning the aviation sector of terrorist andcriminal schemes and methods in a timely manner, he said.

He urged the publicsecurity force of localities having airports and aviation works to complete theirsteering committees on anti-terrorism. He requested for close coordination ofrelevant agencies in ensuring aviation security and safety as well as strictpunishments on violations.

He also asked theMinistry of Transport to continue reviewing and completing legal documents on aviationsecurity and safety, along with regulations on necessary equipment to cope withillegal interference into civil aviation activities. A security camera systemshould be installed in all airports, he added.

According to DeputyMinister of Transportation Le Dinh Tho, last year, the committee held anational rehearsal on aviation emergency in Cam Ranh, the central province ofKhanh Hoa. Agencies promoted close coordination to ensure all flights of seniorleaders of the Party and State abroad and foreign leaders to Vietnam, as wellas foreign leaders and high-ranking delegations to Vietnam, including thoseserving the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the central city of Da Nang.

However, Tho alsopointed to a number of shortcomings of the sector, including weak performanceof some aviation security workers, and a lack of adequate equipment foranti-terrorism in some airports.

Deputy Minister ofPublic Security Bui Van Nam proposed higher financial investment in aviationsecurity and the strengthening of advanced technology in the work, whileimproving the quality of aviation security staff by providing more training andequipment and raising the awareness of the staff on the importance of aviationsecurity in the current situation.-VNA

Man jailed for smashing Nguyen Dynasty throne armrest

According to the indictment, Tam bought an admission ticket to the citadel around noon on May 24, 2025. Once inside Thai Hoa Palace, he climbed over a protective barrier, sat on the "Nguyen Dynasty Throne", and broke off the front-left armrest before striking the artifact further and shattering the broken section into multiple pieces.

Nearly 700 administrative procedures abolished

By the end of May this year, localities across had implemented simplification measures for 411 administrative procedures, including abolishing 86 processes, amending or supplementing 111 and retaining 214, contributing to improved efficiency of the State administrative apparatus as well as helping citizens and businesses.

Vietnam handles over 2.39 million traffic violations in H1

According to the Traffic Police Department, the country recorded 7,773 traffic accidents during the six-month period, killing 4,877 people and injuring 4,486. Compared with the same period last year, accidents fell by 17.4%, fatalities by 8.4% and injuries by 28%.
