Hanoi (VNA) – Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has directed all possible medical support for victims in a crash between a truck and a coach in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on early May 7.

The collision occurred at 4:35am at Km1632 100 on Ho Chi Minh road running across Chu Se district, claiming 12 lives and injuring 23 others.

The truck is registered in the central province of Binh Dinh while the coach is from the northern province of Nam Dinh.

Binh, who is also Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, asked Deputy Chairman Khuat Viet Hung and Deputy Transport Minister Le Dinh Tho to arrive at the scene as soon as possible and work closely with the municipal authorities and the provincial Traffic Safety Committee to help with recovery efforts.

Authorities and heads of the Traffic Safety Committees of Nam Dinh and Binh Dinh were also required to coordinate with Gia Lai provincial authorities to visit and offer assistance to families of victims as well as the ongoing investigation.

The businesses owning the vehicles in the accident will be put under a thorough inspection.

The Transport Ministry was tasked with directing the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam to strengthen data supervision via journey surveillance equipment and alert transport departments to traffic law violations if found. At the same time, the ministry must inspect the enforcement of laws on transport business, the grant of driving licenses, and technical safety of four-wheeled vehicles in localities, among others.-VNA
