Affirming that Vietnam values its tieswith Canada, he said the country is ready to work with Canada to fosterthe relationship and make it more effective.
LaudingMichaelle Jean’s candidacy for the post of Secretary General of theInternational Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) for the 2015-18tenure, he expressed his belief that if elected, she will perform herduties well.
The Deputy PM affirmed Vietnam’sconstant policy of participating in the OIF in an active and responsiblemanner, stating that Vietnam can act as a bridge between theFrancophonie and ASEAN.
He suggested the OIF focusmore on economic cooperation and plans to adapt to the rapidly changingglobal context, along with encouraging the diversity in culture andlanguage.
Meanwhile, Michaelle Jean said Vietnam isan important partner for Canada in the Asian-Pacific region, and highlyvalued the role Vietnam plays in international and regionalorganisations.
She lauded Vietnam’s contributions tothe development of the French-speaking community over the years,including the successful organisation of the seventh OIF summit in 1997,which marked an important milestone of the community.
On the occasion, she also shared her opinions on the future of thecommunity, highlighting that its policies should meet the requirementsof its members, with more of a focus on the promotion of the role ofwomen and youth in building a community of solidarity, stability andsustainable development.
She said she was impressedby women and youngsters in Vietnam, considering them important actors inVietnam’s national development and international integration processes.-VNA
