Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has been named President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee.

The appointment came at the sixth conference of the seventh VFF Central Committee in Hanoi on September 5.

The event saw the attendance of State President Truong Tan Sang, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) and head of the CPVCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Ha Thi Khiet, and retiring VFF President Central Committee Huynh Dam.

Addressing the event, Dam expressed his hope that the Party and State will create more legal grounds to enhance the front’s role and improvements in the political system as well as the national great unity.

Dam’s successor Nhan said he hoped to receive more attention from the Party and State as well as the support of branches, agencies and people of all social strata in order to improve the VFF’s operation.-VNA
