Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has urged localities in the Mekong Delta to strengthen measures to overcome difficulties facing the region’s education development.
Addressing a recent conference to review the implementation of Government Decision 1033 on promoting education and vocational training development in the region, the Deputy PM praised the efforts of regional authorities to fulfil set goals in the field.
However, he noted that the rate of children attending preschool in the region still remains low and asked localities to pay more attention to building infrastructure facilities and training teachers for relevant education levels.
Deputy PM Dam stressed the need to promote privatisation or financially self-control mechanisms in order to reduce State budget strains.
Universities and colleges in the region should focus on intensifying associate training models, setting up branches throughout localities and supporting each other, thus attracting more students, he stressed.
He urged Ministries and sectors to swiftly revise documents to ensure their relevancy to the realities of each region.
The Ministries of Education & Training; Labour, Invalids & Social Affairs; Finance; and Planning & Investment were requested to draft a new decision following Decision 1033 with more concrete solutions and practical targets.
The conference revealed that the development of education and vocational training in the Mekong Delta under Decision 1033 had positive changes, significantly contributing to the region’s socio-economic development.
Almost all goals set forth in the Decision were realised with the fulfilment of primary education universalisation in 2011 as a prominent outcome. Efforts related to infrastructure facilities and human resources planning received due attention, helping improve education-training quality and meeting the region’s socio-economic development targets.-VNA
