Vietnam attaches importance to relations with Canada and wants the North American country to become an important partner in many fields.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan made the statement while receiving newly-appointed Canadian Ambassador Deborah Chatsis in Hanoi on December 8.

Nhan expressed his hope that with the ambassador’s contributions, Canadian businesses will continue pouring cash into Vietnam.

Vietnam pays special attention to international educational cooperation, particularly university and post-graduate training programmes and vocational training systems, he said, conveying his wish that the two countries would further cooperation in this field in the future.

The Deputy PM also suggested the ambassador make active contributions to labour cooperation between the two countries.

For her part, Ambassador Deborah Chatsis promised to try her best to fulfil her tasks, helping boost the Vietnam-Canada relationship for the common interests of the two nations and the two peoples.

The Vietnam-Canada ties have seen positive developments in the past, especially in trade and investment. Two-way trade between Vietnam and Canada was expected to exceed 1 billion USD in 2010.

Canada now ranks 13 th among countries and territories investing in Vietnam./.
