The ITAR-TASS delegation is on a working visit to Vietnam from October 23-31 at the invitation of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
At the reception, Deputy PM Nhan affirmed that the Vietnamese people and he himself always extend the best sentiments towards the land and people of Russia .
At present, Russia is home to more than 5,000 Vietnamese students and thousands of Vietnamese officials are fluent in Russian language, he said, adding that this is a vivid manifestation of the long-term traditional relationship that has been fostered by the two countries’ leaders and people over the past 80 years.
The Deputy PM also reviewed the good cooperation between the two countries in various areas, including the Petersburg University ’s assistance for Vietnam to build an e-library for university education in 2009.
During President Medvedev’s upcoming visit to Vietnam , the two sides are expected to sign an agreement in which Russia will help Vietnam build its first nuclear power plant, he said.
Nhan said that Vietnam pays attention to scientific development during its industrialisation and modernisation process. Therefore, the country wants the Russian Academy of Sciences to become an important strategic partner of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
He said he was pleased with the closer and more effective cooperation between ITAR-TASS and VNA in recent years, expressing his belief that this cooperation will further develop in the future.
He also suggested that the two news agencies annually issue several joint publications highlighting the ten most important events of each country to strengthen mutual understanding between the two peoples.
For his part, Kalmycov said that he will try his best to realise the Deputy PM’s proposals, adding that ITAR-TASS and VNA have been implementing well a cooperation agreement that they signed in 2008.
During his stay in Vietnam , the ITAR-TASS First Deputy General Director interviewed State President Nguyen Minh Triet on the long-lasting traditional friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia .
State President Triet said that a task set for the two countries in the future is how to make their strategic partnership and comprehensive cooperation more practical and effective, meeting the interests and aspiration of the two peoples.
At first, the two countries should speed up the implementation of strategic cooperation projects, including projects on oil and gas exploration and exploitation in Vietnam , Russia and third countries, building nuclear power plants in Vietnam and establishing the Vietnam-Russia Technological University , he said.
Vietnam and Russia should also expand their cooperation to new areas such as telecommunications and banking.
Earlier on the day, the ITAR-TASS delegation held talks with VNA General Director Tran Mai Huong during which the two sides exchanged views on the implementation of their cooperation agreement and discussed ways to expand cooperation in the new situation.
