Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh received World Bank Country Director in Vietnam Victoria Kwakwa in Hanoi on September 14.

At the reception, the Deputy PM spoke highly of the WB cooperation, support and assistance for Vietnam , which he said helped the country overcome difficulties derived from the impacts of the world economic downturn.

He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government highly values recommendations and aid that the WB has provided for Vietnam , especially for poverty reduction programmes and projects.

The immediate goal of the Vietnamese Government is to curb inflation, stabilise the macro-economy and ensure social welfare through the effective implementation of specific measures in its Resolution No. 11, Ninh said.

He expressed his wish that the WB will continue its support for Vietnam by providing policy consultancy on macroeconomic stabilisation, technical assistance in public debt management, especially for WB loans, and investment for essential infrastructure works.

Victoria Kwakwa highly valued the close coordination between the Vietnamese Government and the WB in implementing the bank’s operations in the country.

She said that although the Vietnamese Government’s past measures have proven effective, the country is still facing many challenges in its path of attaining middle and long-term objectives.

As a development partner of Vietnam, the WB pledges to continue support for Vietnam in realising its objectives, as well as provide assistance in economic and financial reforms, she affirmed./.
