Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy spokeswoman of the Foreign Ministry Pham Thu Hang has affirmed Vietnam’s determination to fight illegal migration while responding to the report that seven of the 20 bodies found on the coast of Taiwan (China) carried Vietnamese personal papers and were victims of human trafficking.

Speaking at the ministry’s regular press briefing on April 6, she noted the Consular Department and the Economic and Cultural Office of Vietnam in Taipei have been coordinating closely with Taiwanese authorities, keeping a close watch on the case, and assisting relatives of the persons reportedly missing to carry out identification and handle funeral affairs.

The victim identification will include DNA testing to guarantee accuracy, Hang said.

Giving further information about illegal migration prevention, she affirmed that the Vietnamese Government has been creating favourable conditions for legal, safe, and orderly migration while resolutely fighting illegal migration, arrangement of illegal migration, and human trafficking.

In the recent past, Vietnam has strongly carried out the human trafficking combat, along with the programme on human trafficking prevention and control for 2021 - 2025, with orientations towards 2030, that includes new solutions and tasks to prevent human trafficking in all fields.

"The country is exerting efforts to achieve the targets of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) under a plan issued by the Prime Minister on March 20, 2020 so as to create a transparent migration environment, protect migrants’ rights and legitimate interests, and prevent risks of human trafficking in international migration activities," the deputy spokeswoman went on.

Vietnam is enhancing cooperation with countries and organisations, including the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), in preventing, detecting, investigating, and dealing with rings of illegal migration organisers in line with law. It is also ready to discuss and coordinate with other countries to resolve the relevant cases in a timely manner to ensure legal and safe migration and prevent risks of human trafficking for migrants’ rights and legitimate interests, according to the official./.
