Hanoi (VNA) - The province of Dien Bien is focusing on preparations for about 20 significant activities leading up to the 70th anniversary of the Victory at Dien Bien Phu.
With less than a month remaining, the entire country is gearing up to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), a globally recognized event of immense national pride.
On this occasion, Le Tien Dung, Deputy Head of the Department for Information and Education of Dien Bien Provincial Party Committee, granted an interview to VietnamPlus e-newspaper about the preparations for these significant upcoming events.
- Could you provide an update on the preparations for the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory?
Le Tien Dung: The 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory is a monumental event for the nation and a significant joy for the people and armed forces in Dien Bien. Recognizing the importance of this political event, Dien Bien province has been coordinating with central agencies since 2023 to develop detailed programs and plans.
Currently, preparations for 20 key activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary are on schedule.
On April 11, a national scientific seminar titled "The Dien Bien Phu Victory and the Cause of Building and Protecting the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" will be held at the Dien Bien Provincial Cultural Conference Center.
On April 17, a grand meeting to honor Dien Bien soldiers will take place, expected to gather 500 delegates.
Additional activities include nationwide book promotion festivals, exhibitions showcasing Dien Bien's socioeconomic and defense achievements, cycling and running competitions, a live television program on May 5, a military parade on May 7, and the main commemoration ceremony on May 7.
What are some of the highlights of these activities?
Le Tien Dung: This year's 70th anniversary features several notable elements. The military and police forces will participate extensively, with over 12,000 participants in the parade. The event will include a 21-gun salute, a helicopter display carrying the national and party flags, and performances by various military and civilian groups.
A significant meeting will be held with historical witnesses of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, emphasizing the importance of commemorating them while they are still healthy. The national seminar will highlight the pivotal role of the Dien Bien Phu Victory in national development and defense.
- What challenges does Dien Bien face in preparing facilities for such large-scale events?
Le Tien Dung: With the National Tourism Year and the Ban Flower Festival already attracting many visitors since March, we expect a surge in tourists in April and May.
We have devised numerous plans to accommodate participants, including utilizing facilities from military and police units and local schools.
For guests and delegates, if hotel accommodations fall short, we will arrange for them to stay in cultural tourism villages, experiencing community living.
- Can you elaborate on the communication efforts in Dien Bien?
Le Tien Dung: Communication plays a crucial role, especially in conveying the Party's and State's policies. In Dien Bien, where many remote areas are hard to reach, mobile communication teams are vital. These teams have been strengthened over the years, effectively utilizing traditional oral communication methods alongside modern technology like online conferences and video clips.
- How is the communication being carried out for this anniversary?
Le Tien Dung: In anticipation of the 70th anniversary, we have ramped up communication efforts significantly. From 2022-2023, the Information Department of the Provincial Party Committee has proactively proposed various measures. We aim to make the communications relatable and understandable, instilling pride and motivating people to strive for national development and to protect our sovereignty.
