In its front-page editorial issued on May 7 on the occasion of the 56 th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, the Quan Doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) newspaper described the victory as “one of the most glorious events in history of national building and defence of the Vietnamese people.”
It highlighted the victory as one of the most outstanding achievements the country made under President Ho Chi Minh’s leadership, comparing it to the Bach Dang Victory which put an end to the Chinese imperial domination, Chi Lang historic victory over the Ming invaders, and Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory over 200,000 Chinese Qing invaders.
The paper affirmed that the historic significance of the victory will live forever, representing a profound subject for discussion in the current era.
According to the paper, the Dien Bien Phu victory put an end to the French colonialism in Vietnam and the entire Indochinese region.
The victory of the nine year-long resistance war, with the Dien Bien Phu event being its climax, had contributed greatly to defending and developing the fruits of the country’s August Revolution.

It recalled General Giap’s conversations with a number of international guests in Hanoi , including former US Defence Secretary Mc Namara, and former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brezinski, under the US President J. Carter’s administration.
When asked about the strategy he applied during the wars, General Giap said “My strategy is peace”.
When answering the question “who is the best general in Vietnam ? ”, Giap replied “the Vietnamese people and the Vietnamese nation”
