Vietnamese embassies around the world have organised various activities to celebrate the 70th founding anniversary of the country’s diplomatic sector (August 28).

At a meeting in Berlin on August 28, Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh reviewed outstanding achievements the sector has gained in political, economic, trade and investment ties with countries, territories and regional and international organisations.

The sector now boasts a staff of 2,400, increasing substantially from the initial 20 members, and 98 representative offices overseas, the diplomat said.

Participants at the event expressed their belief that under the leadership of the Party and the State, the diplomatic sector will contribute more to national defence and development.

A documentary featuring the establishment and development of the sector over the past 70 years was screened on this occasion.

The same day, a similar event took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, during which Ambassador Pham Cao Phong highlighted the sector’s important role in mobilising the international support for the country’s past struggle for national liberation as well as its current regional and international integration.

The ambassador called on the embassy’s staff to thoroughly grasp policies and guidelines of the Party and the State while taking an active part in the diplomatic ties with the host country.

The immediate task is to intensively and extensively boost ties with Malaysian agencies and implement measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, investment, tourism and labour, especially after the two countries reached a joint statement on the framework of their strategic partnership during the official visit to Malaysia by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung last August, Phong said.

He urged the diplomats to better citizen management and protection as well as the handling of legal procedures regarding Vietnamese brides and students in Malaysia.

Another meeting in Praha on August 28 highlighted the diplomatic sector’s contributions to the peaceful, friendly and cooperative ties between Vietnam and the Czech Republic as well as the development of the Vietnamese community in the European country.

The event also reviewed 65 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which have expanded ceaselessly over the past time.

Addressing a ceremony in Cairo, Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt Dao Thanh Cung noted his hope that the diplomats will make more contributions to fostering the relationship between Vietnam and Egypt.

Participants at the event viewed a documentary on the 70-year journey of the diplomatic sector and heard stories shared by the diplomats.-VNA
