Newly-accredited ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative offices abroad pledged to do their best to promote diplomatic and parliamentary cooperation between Vietnam and other countries in politics, external affairs, economics and culture.

While meeting with National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung in Hanoi on July 1 ahead of their departure for the 2015-2018 tenure, diplomats committed to obtaining international support for national construction and development.

The top legislator congratulated the diplomatic sector on its significant achievements in State, parliamentary and people-to-people diplomacy.

He noted that bilateral, multilateral and strategic relations with other countries have been developing well, helping raise Vietnam ’s position in the international arena.

He described the successful organisation of the 132 nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly with the participation of hundreds of parliamentarians around the world as the sector’s remarkable attainment in 2015.

In this spirit, the NA leader asked diplomats to make use of mutually-beneficial cooperation opportunities with other countries to make active contributions to the country’s development.

He asked the diplomats to promote comprehensive cooperation with foreign partners in politics, national defence, security, economics, culture, science and education.

Diplomatic offices abroad should promote communication to help international friends understand the Vietnamese culture, history and people while taking advantage of international support to safeguard national sovereignty and independence, he noted.

He suggested the diplomats take good care of overseas Vietnamese nationals and disseminate the 2013 Constitution and new laws which create a favourable legal framework for foreign businesses to invest in Vietnam while embracing parliamentary diplomatic ties with foreign partners.-VNA
