Disabled swimmer Vo Thanh Tung won a bronze medal at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 18.

Tung finished third in the men's 50m freestyle-S5 with a time of 34.88sec, earning a ticket to compete at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Brazil.

His time of 34.88 overcame the A standard of 38.95 to qualify for the Paralympic Games next year.

Earlier Trinh Thi Bich Nhu also brought home a silver medal in the women's 100m breaststroke-SP5 with a time of 1:57.43 to also secure a place in Brazil.

At the 2014 Asian Para Games held in October last year in Incheon, the Republic of Korea, the southern province of Can Tho-born Tung was awarded five gold medals. He is the Asian record holder in the 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle event.

Vietnam sent four athletes to compete in this event, which attracted 580 athletes from nearly 70 countries. This is the second time Vietnam has taken part in this world event. The last meet was held in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in 2011.-VNA
