Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan on June 2 attended a signing ceremony of an agreement that will help upgrade infrastructure at schools and grant scholarships to poor students in the Mekong Delta.

The document was inked between the National Sponsor Fund for Vietnamese Children, Chevron Vietnam Company, PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation, Japan’s Mitsui Oil Exploration Company, and Thailand’s PPT Oil and Gas Group.

Under the agreement, this year, more than 800 outstanding students of poor families will receive scholarships, while infrastructure at five schools in Can Tho city, Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Bac Lieu and Hau Giang provinces will be upgraded.

Chevron Vietnam Chairman Barry Andrews said the support will focus on the three main fields of health, education and economic development.

Since 2009, with the funding worth more than 3 billion VND (141,000 USD) each year, the four companies have provided assistance for more than 3,800 students and 19 schools in the region.-VNA
