Doan Thi Huong to return home after release

Vietnamese citizen Doan Thi Huong was released from a women’s prison in Selangor state of Malaysia at about 7.10am (local time) on May 3 and received by a delegation of the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Vietnamese citizen Doan Thi Huong was released from a women’s prison in Selangor state of Malaysia at about 7.10am (local time) on May 3 and received by a delegation of the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia.

She has headed to the headquarters of the Malaysian Immigration Department in Butrasaya city after her release from prison.

Malaysia’s Shah Alam High Court (MLS) on April 1 sentenced Huong to three years and four months imprisonment in connection with the death of a man holding a Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) passport with the name of Kim Chol, after she pleaded guilty to the charge of causing injuries using dangerous means, instead of the initial charge of murder. The prison term was calculated starting from the time Doan Thi Huong was detained on February 15, 2017.

Lawyer Salim Bashir said after the trial that Huong was granted a remission of one third of her jail term for good behaviour.-VNA
