Hanoi (VNA) – Five COVID-19 patients have been under special quarantine for nearly half a month. They interact only with doctors and use their phones to keep contact with their families.

As from February 7, the Quang Ha general clinic in the northern province of Vinh Phuc’s Binh Xuyen district has become a quarantine centre for COVID-19 patients and people with high risk of contracting the disease. Vinh Phuc is now Vietnam’s largest COVID-19 hotspot.

Departing with eagerness, coming home with anxiety

In recent 15 days, T., 49, from Binh Xuyen’s Son Loi commune, and four other patients have stayed in the clinic. Other members in T.’s family have been hospitalized here person by person.

T. is the mother of N. T. D., 24, who was among the eight people sent by the Japanese-funded Nihon Plast limited company to Wuhan (China) for training in two months and a half. The group later became the source of coronavirus transmission in Vinh Phuc.

T. said she was proud when her daughter was selected for the course, adding that she prepared for D.’s first trip overseas on November 1 last year.

According to her, on January 17, her daughter called to inform her arrival at home. Her group returned with no one being sick both during the training and upon their arrival in Vietnam.

On January 18, D. began to go to work in Vinh Phuc.

Several days later, after hearing the news on a disease outbreak in Wuhan, D.’s father took her to the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases for TR-PCR testing.

“My daughter got the positive result on the sixth day of the first lunar month and was treated at the hospital,” the mother said, stressing her family’s anxiety at that time.

After knowing her daughter contracting the disease, T. could not sleep for a week. The eagerness when she went abroad had turned into anxiety.

All family members get infected

On February 4, the three remaining members of T.’s family were tested positive for the novel coronavirus. On February 6, when her husband and second daughter were transferred to the Quang Ha general clinic for treatment, T. found herself collapse.

With encouragement from doctors, relatives and friends, T and her family members were determined to fight the virus. Their concern was over when D.’s fever ended on January 29, while her cough went away on February 8. Her test results were negative twice on February 1 and 6.

Both T. and her second daughter went through 14-day treatment with no fever. Their tests were negative on February 14 and 17.

On February 26, all four members of her family fully recovered.

A heartfelt thank-you letter sent to Vietnamese doctors

Vietnamese doctors have saved not only Vietnamese citizens but also foreigners from the disease. The foreign patients included two Chinese nationals – Li Ding and his son Li Zichao. The pair was successfully treated at the Cho Ray Hospital and Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City.

After safely arriving home, they sent a letter to the Vietnamese doctors.

In the letter, they wrote Vietnam and the country’s Government and Ministry of Health had helped them when they were in distress, adding that Vietnamese doctors and caregivers had spare no efforts to cure them.

“We understand that it was your goodness that saved us and we will remember it forever. We want to shout out from the bottom of our heart: Thank you, Vietnam!” the letter wrote.

They said they will return to Vietnam in an appropriate time in the future, then come back to the Cho Ray Hospital to once again express their sincere thankfulness toward their friends here./.
