Dong Nai (VNA) – The People’s Court of Bien Hoa city in the southern province of Dong Nai on July 30 began a first instance trial of 20 defendants on the charge of disturbing public order under Item 1 Article 318 of the Penal Code.

These defendants were accused of taking advantage of the National Assembly’s discussions of a draft Law on Special Administrative-Economic Zones and the Law on Cyber Security to cause social disturbance.

According to the indictment, in the afternoon of June 10, the defendants occupied roadways and blocked vehicles on National Highway 1A, Pham Van Thuan and Duong Tu Giang streets in the city, leading to serious traffic jams.

They ignored police officers’ request to dissemble, and joined about 200 others to disturb public order, causing negative impact on social order and safety in the locality, and traffic congestions for two hours on the national highway and another two hours on the streets.

In addition, several people distributed bread, water, banners and flags to protestors.

At 4 pm the same day, the defendants were arrested by Bien Hoa police.

The trial is scheduled to close on July 31.-VNA
