Catholics in the southern province of Dong Nai have so far this year mobilised about 125 billion VND (5.95 million USD) to fund charity and social activities in the locality.

Thanks to the funding, 600 children were provided with free eye and heart surgeries, a number of poor households hundreds were given loans for economic development and health care treatment.

The fund was also spent on building rural roads.

Besides, local Catholics have actively joined in drives on building a cultural lifestyle in residential areas, contributing to the province’s efforts in fulfilling its goal of building new-style rural areas.

Priest Tran Xuan Thao, Chairman of the Dong Nai province’s Committee for Catholic Solidarity said the organisation will continue to call on Catholic followers to focus on economic development with a view to contributing to the prosperity of the country, while taking part in social activities.-VNA
