Hanoi (VNA) – During the first two days of the April 30 – May 1 holiday, there were 44 accidents across the country, killing 36 people and injuring 33 others, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

The figures showed increases of 10 percent, 38.46 percent and 37.5 percent, respectively, from the same period last year.

April 28 alone saw 20 dead and 18 injured in 25 traffic accidents nationwide.

The National Traffic Safety Committee reported that police handled over 3,600 traffic violation cases, collecting over 3.66 billion VND in fines, temporarily holding 22 cars and 423 motorbikes.

From April 26 afternoon to April 27 morning, people living and working in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and major urban areas travelled to countryside or tourist areas, leading to traffic congestion on major routes.-VNA
