Kim Jong Il, the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), has called for more cooperation between his country and China.
Kim made the remarks while meeting with the Chinese State Councillor and Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu in Pyongyang on February 14, the Xinhua news agency reported.
The DPRK leader expressed his satisfaction over the constant and smooth development of DPRK-China relations in various fields.
He said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the DPRK and China , and both countries will jointly organise a series of events and activities to mark the anniversary.
Meng said that the friendship and cooperation between China and the DPRK has been growing continuously since both countries established diplomatic ties more than 60 years ago, citing frequent high-level exchanges, an increase in trade and economic cooperation and more cultural exchanges.
The two nations have worked well with each other in regional and global affairs, which has not only promoted their respective development but has safeguarded their common interests and also contributed to regional peace and stability, said Meng.
Meng arrived in Pyongyang on February 13 at the invitation of the DPRK’s Minister of People's Security Ju Sang Song, reported Xinhua./.
