Son La (VNA) –Police in the northern mountainous province of Son La said on March 14 they have caught a man smuggling a large amount of opium and meth pills.

Song Po Chua, born in 1992 and residing in Huoi Hin hamlet, Muong Hung commune, Song Ma district, Son La province, was arrested in Co Cha hamlet, Muong Hung commune, on March 12 with 22 packs of opium, 1,780 meth pills and other objects.

Chua confessed that he had bought the drugs in the border area to sell them on.

The case is under further investigation.

On March 4, local police also arrested two Lao nationals on suspicion of smuggling 12,000 meth pills in Moc Chau district, Son La province.

The arrestees were Vang A De, male, born in 1988, and Trang Thi Dua, female, 1974. Both reside in Muong village, Sop Bao district of Laos’ Houaphan province.

They admitted they had impersonated farmers walking through off-the-beaten-track roads to traffic drugs into Vietnam.-VNA
