Hanoi (VNA) – A 7.0 magnitude earthquake shook offshore Java island in Indonesia on April 14.
There are no reports of casualties or damage caused by theearthquake so far.
According tothe US Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 4:55pm (Indonesia time),with a depth of 594km and an epicenter located about 160km northwest ofSurabaya, Indonesia's second most populous city. The tremor could also be felton Bali island.
TheIndonesian Meteorology Agency said the earthquake is not likely to cause atsunami.
Indonesia frequently experiences earthquakes as it is locatedon the Pacific Ring of Fire. In last November, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake in WestJava province on Java island claimed the lives of over 600 people./.
