A 7.3-magnitude earthquake shook the waters off the coast of the Maluku Islands in eastern Indonesia in the morning of November 15, forcing local authorities to issue a tsunami warning for nearby areas.

The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said tsunami waves could hit areas within a 300km radius of the epicentre, 134km northwest of Kota Ternate, a town in Maluku.

The centre also warned of tsunamis in the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan (China), and islands in the southern Pacific.

There have been no immediate reports on casualties or damages so far.-VNA
