The second East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting got underway in Phnom Penh on July 12 to discuss how to enhance cooperation and various regional and international issues of mutual concern.
According to a press release from Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry, the event is chaired by Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong. Taking part are the FMs from all 10 ASEAN member countries and representatives from their partners, including China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and India.
Addressing the event, Hor Namhong said that since its inception in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in December 2005, the EAS has made a lot of progress in five priority areas, including energy, education, finance, disaster management and epidemics.
At the meeting, the ministers will discuss how the EAS should move forward as well as the preparations for the seventh EAS, which is scheduled for November 20 in Phnom Penh.-VNA
