The Vietnam Leather & Footwear Association (Lefaso) has officially kicked off a project to improve the competitiveness for leather and footwear enterprises.

The project, entitled “Innovation and Trademark: A Tool to Successfully Compete in the Global Market”, is set for 12 months in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with a budget of nearly 250,000 EUR, of which 225,000 EUR is funded by the European Commission (EC).

According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the project is very important for the Vietnamese footwear industry, especially when it is facing a lot of challenges from such as lacks of locally-made materials, poor infrastructure and services and low labour standards.

Through the project, footwear businesses’ staffs will be trained and provided with knowledge on trade policies as well as ways to approach the market.

In addition, the project will also help local businesses build the trademark for the Vietnamese export leather and footwear, a new and essential field to raise the competitiveness of local footwear enterprises in the international market./.
