Beijing (VNA) – Vietnam’s economic accomplishments and diplomatic efforts in 2024 have significantly contributed to building a positive image of the country both regionally and globally, commented Prof. Xu Liping, Director of the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Science (CASS).
Regarding Vietnam's socio-economic development in the year, Xu said that the country’s socio-economic achievements in 2024 have exceeded expectations.
In the first three quarters of the year, Vietnam's economic growth reached 6.82%, which is expected to hit 6.8-7% in the whole year, making it one of the fastest-growing economies in ASEAN. The manufacturing and construction sectors have continued to maintain strong growth rates, he noted.
He attributed the success to the effective and drastic leadership of the Vietnamese Party and Government, as well as more open foreign investment policies, an increasingly improved business environment, and a large, young workforce. Vietnam’s economy is expected to maintain its growth momentum in 2025. In the context of weak economic growth regionally and globally, Vietnam’s fast economic expansion has provided a new impetus for regional and global economic growth, said Xu.
On the diplomatic front, the scholar praised Vietnam's positive and proactive activities in 2024 across all channels, including Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, and people-to-people diplomacy, which have helped establish a strong and positive image of Vietnam worldwide.
He said that overall, Vietnam’s diplomacy is guided by Party diplomacy, which elevates State diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy to new heights. Notably, at major multilateral forums such as the United Nations General Assembly, the Summer Davos Forum, the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, and the BRICS Summit, Vietnam’s leaders boldly proposed constructive solutions for global governance, welcomed and highly evaluated by the international community.
Meanwhile, people-to-people diplomacy has been actively and effectively promoted, fostering stronger exchanges between the people of Vietnam and other nations./.
