Egyptian press has given considerable coverage on Vietnam and the 50-year ties between the two countries on the occasion of Vietnam’s 68th National Day (September 2) and the 50th anniversary of Vietnam – Egypt diplomatic ties.

“The Egyptian Gazette” – the leading English-language daily in Egypt , on September 2 published a special supplement, recalling the event when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence on September 2 to establish the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Under the title “Vietnam marks the National Day”, the article affirmed that the August Revolution was a strong encouragement for national liberation movements in many countries over the world.

The article also reviewed the salient achievements made by Vietnam after more than 26 years of renovation.

On the occasion, the National Television of Egypt aired an interview with Vietnamese Ambassador to the country Dao Thanh Chung. The ambassador stressed that relations between the two countries were built on the basis of cultural and historical similarities as well as their shared aspiration for national independence and freedom.

Ambassador Chung noted that two-way trade between the two countries reached 304 million USD in 2012, making Egypt Vietnam’s second largest market in the Middle East-North Africa region.

Also on Sept. 2, representatives from Egypt’s Presidential Palace visited the Vietnamese Embassy to extend greetings to the Vietnamese Government and people on the occasion of the National Day. They also expressed their hope that comprehensive cooperation between the two nations will be further promoted in the coming time.-VNA
