Eighteen distressed fishermen rescued

Another fisherman from ship BTH-96996-TS, which sank during the 3 rd storm of the year (known as Rumia), has been rescued, increasing the number of the ship’s crew to be saved to 18.

One seaman is still missing at sea.

On the afternoon of July 1, the Ho Chi Minh Coastal Information Station received the information that the ship and its crew of 19 were missing in Truong Sa (Spratly) waters.

It departed from Phu Quy Island on May 29 and was expected to return back to the island by 9am on June 29. However, it had still not returned by 2pm and could not be contacted.

Vietnam’s Coastal Information Station System relayed the news to search and rescue teams.

On the afternoon of July 1, fishing vessel QNG-90079-TS located the missing ship and was able to rescue 18 of the crew, of whom one man is in poor health. The search for the remaining missing fisherman continues.

The Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control and the National Committee for Search and Rescue have requested to award fishing ship QNG-90079-TS for its efforts in rescuing the distressed vessel.-VNA
