New Delhi (VNA) – The eighth Delhi Dialogue themed “ASEAN – India Relations: A New Paradigm” opened in New Delhi city, India, on February 17 to discuss bilateral political-security, economic and socio-cultural engagement.

Representatives from the Vietnamese embassy in India, the Foreign Ministry and businesses attended the event, that will run over three days.

Addressing the event, Indian Deputy Secretary of External Affairs Anil Wadhwa said the dialogue targets strengthening ties between India and ASEAN, especially since the ASEAN Economic Community was established on December 31, 2015 and will become the world’s fourth largest economy with a 662 million population, that will open up new opportunities.

The business session on February 17 focused on the manufacturing sector in India and the “Made in India” initiative, as well as supplementary fields and barriers to manufacturing ties.

Participants also looked into regional trade agreements, such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, investment in infrastructure, trans-border trade and start-ups.

A ministerial panel session on February 18 is scheduled to concentrate on the themes of “Connectivity: Creating Pathways to a Shared Future” and the “ASEAN Economic Community and India: Integrating Regional Value Chains and Production Networks”.

On February 19, the academic session will mull over ASEAN and Asia-Pacific security, including the East Sea issue; ASEAN-India cooperation and dynamism in marine-based economics, and the 25 th anniversary of ASEAN-India ties.-VNA
