Hanoi (VNA) – A representative from the Vietnamese Embassy in the Philippines on August 22 visited Do Trung Hieu, a kidnapped sailor who was recently rescued by the host country’s agencies, affirming that the embassy is working to bring him home.

Hieu thanked the embassy and offices of Vietnam and the Philippines for rescuing him, adding his health is recovering.

Hieu and and five other sailors, namely Pham Minh Tuan, Hoang Vo, Tran Khuong Dung, Hoang Van Hai and Hoang Trung Thong, were abducted from the Royal 16 ship off Sibagu island of Basilan, the Philippines, in November 2016.

At the time of the attack, there were 19 sailors on board the ship. Pirates released the ship and 13 sailors after kidnapping the six people.-VNA
