The Prime Minister has approved the establishment of a council steering the compilation of a Vietnam encyclopedia.

Accordingly, the Steering Council will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam who is aided by President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences Nguyen Xuan Thang and President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Chau Van Minh as the Standing Vice Chairman and the Vice Chairman, respectively.

The council will group 13 members, including eight deputy ministers of the Ministry of Science and Technology; the Ministry of Planning and Investment; the Ministry of Finance; the Ministry of National Defence; the Ministry of Public Security; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ministry of Education and Training; and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The others are deputy heads of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education and the Theory Council; and Deputy Directors of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Public Administration and the Vietnam National Universities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Steering Council is tasked with proposing guidelines, directions, and measures of compiling the encyclopedia to the PM, and helping the Cabinet leader coordinate the compilation work.

It is also assigned to mobilise scientists’ engagement in the work, evaluate compilation outcomes, and publish the encyclopedia.-VNA
